How To Design The Perfect Workout To Fit Your Life Style
Â
If you have been contemplating the need to find a good workout to help improve your health, you know there are thousands of choices and opinions about what works best. Just a stroll by the magazine rack will show endless varieties of articles on what is the latest, greatest exercise regimen.
Â
So, how do you know what is right for you?
Â
First you should do an honest assessment of your current condition. If you are in pretty good shape to begin with, you will probably want to do something entirely different than someone who has been sedentary for a number of years. And, you should be realistic about the fact that results do not happen over night.
Â
The next step is to come up with some tangible goals. For many people this is the loss of a certain number of pounds.
Â
However, this is really not the best goal to use. The reason being, muscle weighs more than fat. You could certainly get in much better shape and find that you are actually a little heavier. This is not necessarily a bad thing because your body shape will undoubtedly improve and your overall fitness will be much better. There will be fewer inches around your waistline, and so the appearance of being lighter will be evident.
Â
Instead of having a weight goal, it would be more effective to find out your current level of body fat and then come up with a goal based on that percentage. Many find this to be a lot less stressful goal than losing weight. And for someone really wanting to get the benefits of working out, a better overall indicator.
Â
After thinking through where you want to go with your workouts, the next thought should be what activity or activities you are going to engage in. Deciding how much time you are willing to devote is critical to deciding this. Arguably, you can get a good workout completed in 20 minutes, done three or four times a week…but it would need to be fairly intensive.
Â
If you have more time, you can be a little more casual as to the intensity. Assuming you are just looking for overall health benefits, it would be wise to choose an activity that you really enjoy. If you can do that, you will probably have much more success than doing something that you dread. The activity could be something as fun as a fast game of basketball with friends or group bike rides.
Â
Regardless of what you choose, try to be consistent in your workouts, and you will see results sooner than you ever could have imagined.
